His comment was that amazon, Walmart etc... online shopping won’t hurt urban centers, but will wipe out rural areas, for the exact reason SWNE said. People shop online for a bunch of stuff, so the baseline business that used to keep the stores open just isn’t there. In urban areas all those stores already have the wide selection people want so they don’t do nearly as big a % of online shopping.
His concern was that this, coupled with an already shrinking and aging population base in rural areas might make it a rough road. | |
