Here we don't have water issues to deal with. Biggest problem if you can call it that is our soil has quite a bit of shrink and swell potential.

Having said that just looking at new homes being built here, nearly 100% are built on a slab. Only homes that have crawlspace are usually the pre-built like our house. It was built in 2010 and with modern plumbing and wiring, I've only been in the crawlspace once. And that was just to look around.

Basements are not all that popular here. Our winters are not so cold, and having to go up and down stairs isn't that appealing to a lot of people. Storm cellars are more common, either partially under the house, or completely separate.
