We think the iron pipe isnt as good as it used to be or something in our soils makes it not last.


Probably some of both.

I use a couple of elbows and 12” long pieces of iron pipe at the base of my hydrants. I’m pretty sure that’s how the ones at the farm are done and some of them are getting pretty old and haven’t had any trouble. Our soil isn’t very corrosive though. At my house it’s really more of an aggregate than soil at that depth.
