Subject: Farming with father in law

Central Ilinois
Friend of mine farms small (400 acres) and runs a medium sized seed business. His father in law farms 4-5,000 and has one full time hired man and a son in the operation. (Father in laws base of operations is about 20 miles away from his seed shed and farm ground.). The full time hired hand has decided to retire and father in law is wanting to bring his son in law into his operation. He’s my best friend and done very well for himself, and has an excellent business built up doing what he’s doing now. If he farms with FIL he will most likely have to scale back the seed business and lose some “higher maintenance” customers. Don’t want to see him give up his business and get involved with his father in laws operation for something to not work out.

Anyone on here farm with in-laws. I realize there family but it’s still not blood. Farming with your own father and brother can be difficult enough as it is.
