Honestly though, Cargill is a unique entity all its own. It is the foremost global company in the most basic and necessary industry in the world. So long as humans exist, they will need to eat. Invention and innovation is not their issue; they are the great wholesaler of others inventions (Dow, Monsanto, Universities) produced with other's equipment (Farmers, Deere, Case), labor (Farmers), and risk (Banks). To top it off, they are owned by 70 odd people, mostly named MacMillan, who move in one direction and provide stability and a long-view that public companies can't quite compare with. You are right Conan the Farmer - - - That's the big difference on why there can not be a comparison to IH, Ford, GM or even steel corps. They are privately held and run. They do have some off shoot public corps, but their core business is private and will remain that way. If money starts to flow out of an injured fingers - a tourniquet is placed on the wound and acute attention is placed on that wound now. They do NOT lose money well . . . . . . |
