NW, Pennsylvania | The way I look at is: If you keep the grain in bins for more than a year, you already lost money. The question remains: how much money did you loose and was it offset by market fluctuations? I am a very small farm, so maybe my thoughts are mute. But for me to store grain beyond 6 months is not feasible. Without the income associated by the sale, I can not pay my bills or even keep the fans turning. Couple cents does multiply into a huge figure when you are talking about 1/2 Mil bu, but it never pays off when the market takes a dump and you lost 200 cents per bu. Get as close as you can to your "goal" and then sell. You'll make it up in future investments when you can make your goal. Not everyone can become rich off of one sale. Its all about a series of small smart sales that will turn a crap year into decent one. | |
