The plants actually use the corn they buy so the price is important. At some point they are paying for those bushels with the cash price. When they buy the corn they might replace it with hedges but at some point they have to bring it to market to pay the cash price for the corn. The spread between ethanol price and the corn price is important. DDG prices fallow corn and meal pretty good.
