| A 2x4 cut to length for a spacer works well. Instead of using concrete, we cut our pipe a couple feet longer and drive them. I know it doesn't work everywhere, but it works everywhere I work. I also blow holes and slide sucker rod or pipe through on an all pipe job. String line from end to end with a magnet at the highs and lows to hold your string in place......You'll be able to mark 90 degrees from your holes, as well as the height. A beer can and a pair of scissors works great to make your jig, and you can index it by your string line kissing the face of the post. If you do dig holes and pour crete, two string lines......one high, one low......will keep you in line and plumb.
Edit to add: I cut my holes with my welder and a cutting rod instead of a torch, and cut all of my pipe saddles and fishmouths with a portable bandsaw. No torch on the truck.
Time lapse photography also speeds up the process.
