The pump motor no doubt has thermal protection. Sounds like similar system to mine. The only times mine has done that are when the motor was going bad or the inlet was restricted. I rigged mine so I can back flush the inlet whenever it starts slowing down. Usually have to do it every year or two.
How does your motor sound when it's running?
