It seems like around my area we lost both young and older farmers in the 80's. I know that we gained some guys in the late 80s that would not have been able to farm if the land prices had not come down. A fall in land prices works both ways and it is more timing then anything. I watched several guys a few years older then me lose everything when they want back to the family farm and got tied up in expanding it fast. A little while after that I watch a few guys that where a few years younger then me buy land in the late 80's and they couldn't figure out why the young guys in the 70's couldn't make it work.
