David Loberg Northeast Nebraska
Another inch last night. Beans are starting to show iron chlorosis from the water logged soils, and corn roots can't catch up to the N. We are 75% plus sidedress/fertigation N, so are ok, but the guys that put it all out up front may be running short here soon. There could be a monster crop in our area if can catch another rain or two, and we don't blaze through ear fill period. Beans aren't too impressive, but they can look like crap til August and still be fine. After 2012 I can't ever really complain about a rain, but we could afford to go without one for a few weeks here to get stuff to root down. My fear is we go from wet to a flash drought, only have 12-16" deep roots and we end up irrigating with a full profile 20" and down, but we can't utilize it.
