NEKS | Not sure about the failing at other things, but some seminaries are pushing the idea of consolidating power in the church away from the many (the members) and into the hands of a few (preacher and elders). It happened in the church I grew up in after I had left. Kicked out a prominent older member because he dared to ask questions then refused to jump through the preacher's hoops.
I think one must be wary of churches that are too liberal, but equally one must be wary of churches that are too conservative and are authoritative abusive places. If a church identifies with the wrong organizations, stay away, because abuse and control may be around the corner. | |
