I really like the idea of buying out of the money calls to protect some of your previous sales. They say most options expire worthless and they maybe do if you hang on to them until they expire. I have had pretty good luck selling some of those calls back when we have had weather scares the past few summers. It seems like we have been able to add a few cents to our sales by doing that. The calls also help protect against margin calls for me. They saved me a lot of margin calls in 2012. I do all my hedging on the board and I seem to like moving the money into my bank account from a bear market but I really don't like taking it out of the bank for margin calls on weather scares.
