| I try to get people to think about what really happens after their grain falls through the grate in the elevator.
The economics of turning grain into meat protein really haven't changed much the last 10 years, except that some efficiencies in gain have been realized, and alternatives (synthetic) have come online to be cost effective, thus lowering the need for raw grain protein. If todays grain prices (or prices that have been available through the year) don't work, the cost structure of the producer needs scrutinized. Easier said than done, but the sooner one realizes that, the better off the operation will be. This is a tough crowd to reason with on that issue. | |
