NE Alberta | I realize every area is different, but the trend EVERYWHERE is that the environmentalists get more say as time goes on. In some places it is already happening that abandonment HAS to be done to very strict standards (a stage 1 environmental audit can cost a few thousand dollars, and if it shows soil contamination or other problems a stage 2 audit would be required, which can easily cost tens of thousands of dollars), and the reclamation costs can skyrocket(sometimes costing as much as the land is worth). I would not be willing to take on the liability that well ownership entails, especially in a case like yours where your potential benefits are actually very small.
