We have clay soils with a hint of loam. But high organic matter, typically 4%, higher in the low spots. I believe the organic matter helps some?
We have very high water table, heavy spring snow melt and rains.
Tile works well here for that, even at 80 foot spacings. Lowering that water table 24/7 makes room for rainfalls,.
In your low rainfall area, I'd think maybe fairly shallow tile would keep the water table available for roots that run out of rainfall in late summer? You probably might want shallow and closely spaced tile to lower that water table but not too much?
