Subject: polaris atvs. can they be tamed?

Sw. Ill
never been a fan of the polaris belt drive autos. every one ive rode has worked the same, either your stopped or your screaming full throttle. they just dont like to go slow. well i bought a 97 xplorer the other day (was cheap) and its no exception, the 300 2 stroke just wants to take off like a rocket. is there any way to get more low speed usability? i just like to putt around. you cant really maintain a low speed without slipping the belt a ton, and the engine just revs. was thinking about clutch modifications. i need to remove the clutch anyway to put a new starter on.
