Krm i have a 8.1 in 2003 3/4 it get about 6 mpg no matter if you drive like grama or balls to the walls loaded that Allison is a strong transmission, got 220,0000 on it


I hate to say it, but unless your loaded heavy all the time I would have your truck looked at. No big block has ever been known for fuel economy, but you should be getting better then that unless your truck has a heavy bed and is grossing 12k plus.

I do agree that its a great pulling motor and tranny. The '06 and later will have the 6 speed Allison instead of the 5 speed in the earlier ones. I have an '07 classic with the 8.1, pulling hard I usually average 6-9 mpg, empty 12-14 mpg. My big block will pull just as good if not better then my buddies '04 Duramax, pulling the same load he might be 1-2 mpg better then me though.
