Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow | I remember when the US & North Vietnam were negotiating the end to the Vietnam War. The Vietnamese argued first about the size of the negotiating table and then about the shape of the table (round vs rectangle). Why? Because they wanted the US to concede first. It is a fundamental rule of negotiation, don't make the first offer. Businessmen all over the world know this rule. But probably the most important rule is to clearly understand what you're trying to accomplish before you even begin.
I, myself have personal rule that I try to follow. It is: know the answer before you ask the question. Don't leave the answer up to the other party. |
