The risk of keeping it, to me, is no one knows what their proposed fix is, and what it's impact to economy or performance will be.

I guaranty the repair will have little to none long term reliability testing and the EPA cares not one bit what it does to economy or power as long as it meets smog.
If your state has smog you will not get registered without the updates.
In rural nevada there is no smog testing so I wonder what system they will use to enforce the updates?
I am sure they will make more criminals out of those that try to skip the updates......
