Subject: Old barn home refurbished

Victoria Township, North Dakota
I am dreaming here

6 miles away on the old family homestead is a 100 year old, Two story gambrel roof barn. Has not been used for livestock for at least 30 years. It is still pretty strait. Was shingled 10 years ago. Great grand dad poured enough concrete in the foundation to keep the sill plate out of the bedding. My paternalgrand father who was born in 1910 on that homestead moved off in 1940 and built his own place a mile away. It is the only structure left on the original 1906 homestead. I might be able to negotiate getting the structure for free from my uncle if I had a plan to move it to my current active farmstead and rehabilitate it.

My current ranch style home built in 1962 , on my active farmstead would become employee housing.

I am thinking of moving it on to a slab with a floor heat, insulating it, adding plumbing and using it for a home.

I would like to hear from some one who has done a crazy idea like this and would you do it again?
