Near-north Ontario, French River | Having your own dryer can pay big relative to having it dried at the elevator but you have have to do a good job of drying. Elevators will charge you to dry down to 15.5 , or what ever your local market considers dry, but if they over dry it they eat the added expense. It could be argued that they factor that into the shrink factor though. If you over dry it at home you are eating both the extra gas/electricity and the 'shrink'. Talked to a few guys around here and they dry to 14-14.5 , sometimes lower, if they intend to store long term on the farm. That all comes at a cost. |
