Subject: RE: 9770 Fixed Speed Drive and Shelling Corn

Northeast Louisiana
That variable speed arrangement was one of the worst things Deere ever built. We had all sorts of problems, including several fires, before we finally threw it all in the scrap pile and ordered the fixed speed bundle. We followed the special service protocol, and used the special grease, but nothing helped. I think it's worse down here where we're harvesting in hotter conditions; the Midwest guys seem to have fewer complaints.
Go to fixed speed, then turn your sprockets around on the header to speed it up if needed.
