I agree with walnut creek. I also am a cover dealer and a lot are moving to Oats because of their ability to put down massive roots and top residue break down quick. Another trend is moving to 15-20 lbs in a blend of peas, but if you don't want to fixate N leave it out. I would recommend a blend of two grasses. In your case if you have a decent amount of growing season ahead of you I would go with rootmax annual rye. It will put down the most extensive root system while building soil, however it kills harder in the spring. Like walnut said if you plan for the early n tie up it is manageable, a legume will also help offset. A lot of guys around here are going with blends like: 3# tillage radish, 17# winter peas, 8#rootmax annual rye or barley, 20# cereal rye.
