I tried 3 different combines with choppers. Right behind combine the residue looks uniform but 3 weeks later you can see most of the fines are in the middle 12 ft with some coarser stuff thrown to outsides. That being said I now use a jd 9670 WITHOUT a chopper, just a spreader--does a much better job of uniform distribution of residue for my no-til situation. The only time I would like a chopper is in really green stemmed beans. Corn you do not need a chopper. As stated above, the jd chopper uses over 45 hp.
