in regards to lime, your sand must be different than ours, 3 ton didn't quite get it to 6.5 but it is all at least mildly acidic, even in the subsoil, hence the N to get it going
And yes, the pursuit and buctril is hard on the alfalfa, but less hard on it than competition from weeds, we usually spray with gramoxone 3 or 4 days after we no till it, that usually gives the alfalfa time to get up and growing before you need to spray it again. and wo only direct seed, no more oats here
