I hate thawing in the microwave... in 1 or 2 lb packages I'd just set it out about 3-4 hours ahead of when you need to use it. Thawing in the fridge could take 12 to 18 hours. I know there are safety issues and if you don't trust who's cooking the burgers to cook them thoroughly then yes, slowly thaw in fridge. Usually when I get an "undercooked" hamburger it was a frozen patty that isn't "done" in the middle because it was froze when it was set on the grill.

If it were me, I'd set them all out for about 2 hours to get them started thawing... give them space (don't stack them on each other) Then put them in the fridge overnight and then set them out again about 30 minutes before you want to handle them and they should all be safely thawed.
