I ran a 843 head for a number of years that was converted to poly.  It worked well.  Finally upgraded to a 1293 head.  I really can't tell a whole lot of difference in how they feed.  If you can buy the 90 series head for comparable money to the 40 series, I think I would certainly go with the 90 series.  They are a better head overall then the 40 series.
