Southern Idaho | Looking for a honest comparison here. 90 series has poly, the one I looked at did not have hyd deck plates ( which is fine ) they appear to have many similarities, asking those of you that have run both, what the differences are and what makes the 90 series better Thanks,, IDF

NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | In down corn the 90 series with the poly snoots will do a much better job is a huge advantage. There is night and day difference in the way the corn will feed through the head. I had the 40 series and now the 90 series, no way I'd want to go back, well worth the extra cost.

Eastern Iowa | Poly is the main difference, Most parts are interchangeable but 90's had metric nuts and bolts.

Galena IL | if you have any poor spots in your fields hyd. deck plates will pay for them selves in a hurry. I've run 40, 900 and 600 they do keep making them better... Dennis

Marion,ks | They have poly snout kits for 40 series heads , my 843has the JD version and I like them better than the steel ones on my dads 643 head. You can upgrade a 40 seires with most of the 90 series improvements.

210 Industrial Dr., Arlington Wisconsin 53911 | 90 series had larger auger and updated cluster gear that ran the rolls and chain drives. The first 90 series heads had old cluster gears but were updated by Deere. 95 and 96 model year 90 series had faded poly to blue problem but fine 97 and after. Prices have come down of late - I would buy the 90 series.

SE MN | I agree with everyone here as well. The poly could be added to the 40 series but 90 series heads have really come down in price. the triple or cluster gear thing isn't a major issue but is something to be aware of as they are easier to fail but I have seen the new ones fail as well. In my opinion they are both excellent heads and I would own a 40 series before a 600 series. We just put a full Calmer kit on a 643 in our shop last week and its a nice looking head and has brand new rolls plates and sprockets on it. Way less money in it than a newer 606c stalkmaster head and takes way less power.

Soutwest Ks. | I ran a 843 head for a number of years that was converted to poly. It worked well. Finally upgraded to a 1293 head. I really can't tell a whole lot of difference in how they feed. If you can buy the 90 series head for comparable money to the 40 series, I think I would certainly go with the 90 series. They are a better head overall then the 40 series.
