Seems you're assuming they wanted to look through a catalog of Mom & Dad's meds. What they did was sidle up to me, and flat out offer cash for disposing of the meds in the household. I assume they would have bid low enough to cover the risk that there were no good pills in the mix.
On the other hand, if you're assuming that our us elders don't have a few kick ass pain meds on hand for those intolerable days, you're mistaken.
