I see it as an opportunity for Canadian cattlemen to raise the beef the customer wants. Why cant we raise that "quality" in Canada. I assume they are paying more for it.


You have reached the crux of the issue.

The consumer wants what they perceive to be good but wants it for bottom dollar.


What is fascinating to me is that the North American consumer is incredibly spoiled. Most of the world spends between 26 and 28% of income on food.
Here we reserve spending those kind of amounts on our cars!!!
Food on the other hand is supposed to be CHEAP!!! (Somewhat higher now at about 11% of income in the USA and 13% in Canada where it was down at 9% in the USA and a trifle less than 11% in Canada
but with the consumer demanding all of these changes well - - - costs have gone up. If you want something interesting to think on check out the difference between organic in North America and in Europe!)
