Supa D--it gets all meat producers upset as its just like A & W , Tim Horton's, McDonalds cage free eggs, ect. using it as a marketing ploy.......fwiw on Alberta CTV last night even the city filk said they were done eating at Earl's .........even packers/processors are into it as a large US packing company labels there microwave bacon as raised without added hormones and the next line is about USDA laws do not allowadding hormones to pork .....us meat producers have 3 big obstacles retailers wanting to have a "special" marketing advantage , uneducated public and those with an agenda too kill animal agriculture at any cost.......our hog buyer calls with questions sometimes from his customers about anti biotics, ect. and he is relatively new on the job, great guy and explained to him about our CQA program all producers at his plant is in and he is now using that as a selling point to buyers with concerns....crop guys complain but wait until they have something like CQA ,TQA ,NMP too deal with. We even have spot checks unloading by CFIA to check animals, conditions, number by size of truck, ect. ... a fine for loading a pig with a broken leg is $6k , if you pay on the spot its $3k....the CFIA inspectors who have farm/meat background are good too work with ,had 1 Asian CFIA vet training inspectors question me 3 times on what that lump (tennis ball size belly rupture) on pigs stomach was and if I thought I should have loaded it and she called plant office 3 times enquiring wether it was fit too butcher. They are fining cattle guysfor shipping cows with twisted guts . Don't have any answers but feel bad for good producers who get crapped on
