Looking for some advise. Neighbor wants to sell me his cows with calves. He has 30 heifers 20 2nd calvers and 10 3rds. Calves from March 1 to April 1. He wants 2900$ a pair and 75$ acer pasture rent. I spray/fertilize. He buys fencing supplies I do labor. I can use his facilities hoop barn to calve in. I've never had cattle before but always wanted to . Also 5 year lease on pasture.any thoughts appreciated

No mention of bulls - - - there's some good costs there!

Is he willing to finance over 5 years? (better 7)

Don't know what pasture is running in your country.

What shape are the pastures in?

How long can you graze?

Any corn real close so that you could graze late on stalks?

How much money you have?

This could be a deal but at $2900 a pair he's not high but he's not cheap either. Good breeding its likely not too bad - - -its the financing and all the other stuff.
The first 5 years the learning curve is tough and with no experience you will have some fun - - you will remember the lessons that cost money - - - but they cost money.
Would need other income and lots of energy.

Make sure your girlfriend/wife likes cows too or you will not find things easy long term.
