I have used over a semi load of railroad ties as corner post.  Got them for free when they abandoned a local track, so they were used.  Most are going on about 30 years.  Replaced only one.  Not due to rot but my (un)controlled ditch grass fire!

Free post.  30 years.  Stout.  No welding.  What's not to like....?

Maybe they last longer up here cause they are sitting in frozen ground (and not rotting) one third of the year!!?
