Effingham County | Anyone in agriculture today who think that this could never happen to me; those folks were poor managers, and that I am wiser than they were, do so at their own and their family's financial peril. It amazes me that many good folks on this website say that this time is different and while that is true each event is unique, history may not repeat itself but often times it rhymes. Hope for the best but plan for the worst. What would happen to your farm if interest rates tripled, land values were to be halved, and commodities prices drop to below price of production and stay there for awhile? Mitigate your risks, shield yourself for sudden misfortune and move ahead as best you can is the best recipe for success.
