I always say that it was technology of one pass air seeding that made semi arid-dryland farming profitable. Western SK and southern AB is prime example. A lot of marginal areas have been transitioned out of continuous cropping into grazing 15 years ago already. For example: we have a quarter section with gravel ridge running down one side. 87a along one side and 20a in the middle are pure gravel(right to the top). We alfalphaed them spots down and grain farm around it.
