If you are getting a pint and a half at a time, I wouldn't push it, he is not used to eating, stomach will take time to get going, too much too fast won't be good.
Bigger thing is to make sure he isn't using all his energy to keep warm, I would try to have him somewhere warm 50 F if you could, dry and out of the wind.
