I did some math the other night using what I believe accurate sources for information.
The top 1% own about 37-38% of the total wealth in the US. Every dollar that they OWN, not make yearly, comes up to around 19 trillion.
You could take every single penny from the 1%, throw them out on the street penniless and give it all to the federal government, and it would only pay off the current debt load. Next year we would be in the hole again and in a decade or so be right back to the same spot we are in. That is without new spending idea's. Truthfully it would happen faster than a decade as the government would have lost a large share of its taxpayer base.
