In the days before these seed treatments, we would always live with, and tolerate, stands that were less then ideal. And it was an unusual year where we did have to replant a field somewhere. Not always on the same farm, or in the same spot, but generally something needed to be replanted. In the years since we've had GMO's - and the seed treatments that go with them - we've seen a lot less replanting. Stands look better. No, this is not a reflection of using GMO seed. It is a reflection of using the better seed treatments, and probably the better genetics (more cold tolerance) in the seed itself. It's hard not to justify using these seed treatments, when you think about the results we are seeing. This is not on poorly drained soils. This is on well-drained soils. And we are not in a "corn-soybean rotation" area. This is in an area where a variety of crops are grown. |
