West Kentucky
I agree with a lot of that. I guess the rest of the statement concerning building maps is that I am a seed dealer as well which is prob a big part of the reason that I feel comfortable building my own. A couple of points that we differ on is that my VR range under irrigation is much tighter than it is on dryland. Most under pivot is 32-36 while dryland is 28-36. Once you figure out the patterns of your yield map and determine why areas yield what they do, it starts to become much easier to assign rates. Our soils are well drained even in extremely wet years so our yield patterns are typically very similar. On wet years, that range tightens a lot.

The KISS method works extremely well concerning VR. The more we complicate it, the more difficult it becomes to measure success.
