NE Indiana-Fort Wayne and NE China
Without manure to help return some K, soil parent material and soil health will have a major impact of how much K is really needed. I have people with clay loams who put all plant materials from Alfalfa and corn for silage thru cows who have not applied any K for 30 years. The soil test levels 7 inches deep never have dropped. In fact they are much higher than they were 30 years ago. BUT... active carbon is up to almost 900 (Cornell Soil Health audit). What K leaves the farm is more than made up for with release from soil parent material. Testing for total cations in 7 inch core is useful info. When a soil is this out of balance. Promoting soil health and creating access to the parent materials composition solves a lot of problems with soils like this.
