For the most part we have good cotton land here. On about 100 acres of dryland this year I am right at 1250 lbs. Last year it was half that. Not uncommon to have 600-700 lb. yield swings from one year to the next. Five year average is between 800 and 900 lbs. The big variable as most would probably guess is water. All cotton is strip tilled, most into a terminated cover crop. I have had dryland make as little as 150 lbs. and as much as 1900 (very small field, 8 acres). Since going to strip till I don't think I have made less than 350 lbs. It's all about heat and moisture here. Not much difference really in inputs with irrigated vs. dryland. A little more fertilizer and pix on irrigated most years. I would really love to consistently hit my five year average yield instead of the roller coaster boom or bust that is common here. Irrigated yields are normally 1300-1600 lbs. but are off approx. 200 lbs. due to poor weather this fall.
