Subject: RE: vertical vs field cultivator

Second year of only vt fields are smooth and firm. Everyone says compaction but we are not seeing it yet. We just bought a zone builder for compaction if it shows up. We will start a 4 yr rotation to keep compaction from being a problem. We had to replant some corn.last year and hit it with a field cultivator and created one really bad compaction layer that took the profile drying out to get the crop going. The fc will be sitting in the weeds from now on and only taken.out for leveling rutted up fields.
