A crib mattress from walmart. We found some on clearance at the big box lumber yard for $9.99 a couple year ago.

Crib matress with a piddle cover under a stitched up old blanket. When the cover gets Muttly, wash it, or pitch it.
The piddle covers keep dirt, and any possible fleas from getting into the Mattress, plus sooner or later, they come in wet.
