This is what happened to my dad as well. Whether the war had actually ended or they stopped sending new troops, I'm not sure. Could be off on my date as to when that happened. Dad did not see action, just a bus ticket back to St. Louis.
Grandpa died when dad was 16 and from what i'm reading here, it sounds like that's why he initially got the deferment. He did have 2 brothers and whether their situations changing caused his to change, I'm not sure. Something for me to dig into.
