Wet brewers grain and wet distillers are very different feeds. I have fed both. If you put it on the ground, your cows aren't going to get it all, maybe enough, maybe you get some fertility in the soil where you dump it, but the cows at that time aren't going to get it all. The brewers grain is more bulky, and you still have the barley husks, and it is more coarsely ground. With brewers grains being so bulky, I don't think you would have much trouble with a cow eating too much, but with distillers I think it is possible to have one eat too much. I do sometimes feed the brewers in a bunk by itself, usually I mix with other feeds/grains and forage. I think your cows will get the most out of distillers by feeding in a trough or bunk of some kind. I don't see it going through a cake feeder at all, nor being used in any kind of self-feeder.
