NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | I'm not sure if I can explain it right or not but take a Hd long flat screwdriver and if your rubber boot that covers the two shifter rods is shot like my 966 was you need to reach in there and pry the shifter that is stuck back and forth until it breaks lose. I know I'm not explaining it well but believe me it's so simple to do. My 966 would do that often and I know I could pop it back into neutral in less then 10 seconds and usually more like 5 seconds. This usually occurs when you try to shift to fast.
The first time this happened to me I had no idea what was going on. I hired a local mechanic to come out and look at it. I'll never forget how simple of fix it was, he got out of his pickup with his screwdriver popped it out of gear in no time flat and charged me $50 for the service charge. I was extremely grateful to get going that fast but often wondered why he didn't just tell me over the phone the simple fix.
Good luck. | |
