Central North Carolina

puff33m - 7/29/2015 10:21 Why not feed it this lower energy ration for the same length of time? I don't think I know enough about finishing and yield grade etc to understand this. But I'm with you. These packers are paying $1.40 for bulls to slaughter in SE at Brown, FPL, and central. If I could raise steers on pasture and winter annuals and supplement DDG or corn screenings and sell 1200# at 1.30 I would think I had it made. Heck, maybe I can and I just don't know it. They sure wouldn't be finished, but they wouldn't be a 12 year old bull either.

I guess that the last period of feeding is primarily to improve the carcass grade up to choice. They don't really say that directly.
With steers planned for burger improving grade quality is not necessary.
