Faunsdale, AL | We are farming the same blackbelt soil as MS Dirty.
Generally it would be black with lime rock / white chalk underneath, but close to 200 years of row cropping has resulted in the erosion of the hill tops into the bottoms if you are lucky or the Mobile-Tensaw delta if you are not.
There is some variation in the soil on top of the chalk here in the edge of the blackbelt, but the primary difference is the depth of soil over the chalk. Lots of places where you are farming white soil that used to be chalk.
MS Dirty.....are you making separate trips through the crop for your foliar apps or can you combine some with herbicide or insecticide?. Looking at chlorotic beans yesterday evening as I was spraying Roundup and wondering if I could be doing something about it.
Badfarmer, see attached soil test for a typical bottom land field here.
