PROSPECT, TENNESSEE
I will say this without a stalk of corn on the farm this year........ IF it rains and stays in the 80's to lower 90's for the next few weeks it will pay in my opinion. IF it don't rain and gets hot you have wasted your money. I have tried a three way split, a two way split, and all top dress at V5. Applying at V5 following a legume crop had yielded the best for me HERE. I don't think it takes 1.2 units of N to produce a bushel of corn. I have made 180 on 150 units before. Conditions have to be good to achieve max yields.
I couldn't even pencil corn this year on "real" expected yields, if I dreamed for high yields the cost went up and bottom line stayed put. The market is rallying, might help with decision!
